SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
Are you looking for better SEO or search engine optimization? It's not just a bunch of tricks that some "coder" can put into effect on your website. It's setting your website up with the right keywords, the proper content for those keywords, and a bunch of other small, yet important things that Google and other search engines like to see. They're trying to make sure that their users have a successful and safe experience.
Is your business unique? Of course it is. Let's tell them about that within your website. But the public also needs to be able to find your website when they search online. They might be searching for a product, service, brand, your business name specifically, or maybe some local advice and extra information. Wouldn't you like to have your website show up more often for the online searches that are relevant to you?
So, what's a search engine? No, it's not a hefty V8. It's what you use to search online. Google, Yahoo, or Bing. And there are others, but Google is the big dog where you for sure want to be found.
What IS SEO?
Well, a few things. Is your website authenticated so something like Google can "see" it? Is your website optimized (set up properly) for good keywords?
What are keywords?
Keywords are what someone might type into Google to find a business, product, service, information, advice, a brand, etc. So, if you're a dentist in Sioux Falls for example, what might someone type in to find you? You'll want to be found online for keywords like "dentist" or "dentistry". But you may also specialize in a few things. Like "pediatric" or "kids dentistry" or "sedation dentistry" or "veneers" or "crowns". Or whatever thing that might make you different from other dentists.
There are ways to find out what popular terms people use in their online searches. I'll look at that. We'll decide what would be your best keyword strategy. Because it's not always the obvious choice.
We'll take your competition into account. What keywords are they ranking for the best? Are those keywords the best choices? You might think you want to show up #1 on Google for a certain keyword or keyword phrase, but what you think is best and what your best prospects type into Google might be two completely different things.
Organic SEO is the best way to make sure your SEO strategy works best for the long haul. Google is a pretty smart beast. Those who say they have tricks to get you to the top of a search are pulling your leg. You can't fool Google. Your website needs to be helpful to those who are searching for what you offer. Your website needs to be easy to follow and contain mostly original information. The more helpful your website is, the more legitimate it looks to Google. You'll be rewarded for that with higher rankings.
Can you go from not being on the first page of Google to ranking high on the first page IMMEDIATELY? That's very rare. It takes a little time. Actually, if you're a new site with a new domain name, sit back and be patient for at least 4 to 6 months. At least. All good things come with time, right? And anything that comes with time lasts longer. Anything that comes immediately... usually goes away just as fast. When we "do it right"... with a website design filled with great content, you'll have much better long-term online success. You're not in business just for a few months are you? You're in business for years and years. So, that's how you should think about all of your marketing. Quick fixes or cheats will bring disappointment eventually. Usually sooner than later.

Frustrated by SEO?
WARNING! The world of SEO has changed! It's not about just hiring someone to get you onto the first page of Google with the right keywords. It's about optimizing your website for the best possible user experience. That means GOOD, ORIGINAL CONTENT. None of the generic, key-word stuffed pages that look and sound just like all of your competitors.
So, if you really want to rank well on search engines, you the business owner, will have to take an active roll in this. We'll have to meet periodically, you and your employees should write a 500-word article about your business, so we can put it on your website's blog, take pictures of what you do and your people in action every month (I'll make edits or "clean it up" if needed), shoot some video of your employees in action or do your own video talking about how you do things the right way or giving tips to your potential new customers, etc.
SEO is not just a "switch" you turn on anymore. Google is smarter than that. They reward websites that have "easy userability", useful information, original information, useful pictures and videos, and anything that helps give an Internet searcher what they're actually looking for.
Are you asking yourself, "Why am I not on the first page of Google?" Then, let's take a look at everything (your website, your domain name, your competition, etc.) and make a plan.
